MPB Structures is proud to announce its partnership with a newly launched on-site training hub at the Smithfield development in Birmingham, an initiative designed to help unemployed young people launch sustainable careers in the construction industry.

We are delighted to confirm that MPB Structures is among a select group of leading employers – alongside Sisk, Berkeley Homes, and Fortel – offering guaranteed job interviews to graduates of this innovative programme.
The training facility, located within the £1.9bn Smithfield regeneration site, recently celebrated the graduation of its first cohort. Twelve previously unemployed young people from the West Midlands have now completed their training, gaining vital practical skills and real-world experience delivered directly on-site.
Bridging the Skills Gap in Birmingham
Operated by The Skills Centre and supported by the Building Birmingham Skills Partnership, the hub was created to address the growing demand for skilled construction workers in the city. With Birmingham set to see billions in infrastructure investment over the next decade – including the Smithfield project and HS2 Curzon Street Station – initiatives like this are crucial for ensuring local talent benefits from local regeneration.
By committing to interview these newly qualified graduates, MPB Structures is taking active steps to reduce youth unemployment and foster a new generation of skilled workers.
A Commitment to Local Communities
The Mayor of the West Midlands, Richard Parker, praised the initiative, noting that it allows local people to “point to Smithfield in the years ahead and say ‘I built that’.”
For MPB Structures, this collaboration reinforces our long-standing commitment to social value and industry excellence. By providing a direct pathway from training to employment, we are helping to ensure that the construction boom in the Midlands leaves a lasting positive legacy for the community.
We look forward to meeting the graduates and welcoming new talent into the MPB Structures team as we continue to deliver high-quality projects across the UK.
