Following our recent engagement with Growth Path, MPB was thrilled to attend the CONSTRUCT Training Forum (CFTF) meeting held on Wednesday, 25th February 2026. Hosted at the Build East Skills Centre in Stratford, the event brought together industry leaders to tackle the most pressing training and competency challenges facing the concrete structures sector.

Driving the Training Agenda

Representing MPB at the heart of the discussion, our Business & People Development Director, Martyn Price MBE, chaired the meeting alongside Vice Chair Niamh Burke. The session provided a platform to review several critical initiatives designed to enhance industry skills, including:

Route to Competence: Detailed updates on the Structures Super Sector, specifically focusing on Steelfixing and Formwork consultations.
Funding & Strategy: Critical updates from the CITB regarding funding, Sector Skills Plans, and the Impact Fund.
Education Pathways: A briefing on recent correspondence with the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Education regarding Post-16 Level 3 and below pathways.
Health & Safety: A focus on Mental Health Awareness Training and the Temporary Works Coordinator (GET3386) qualification.

MPB Welcomes New Procurement Policy Note Prioritising Skills in Public Contracts

MPB Structures welcomes the recent announcement from the Cabinet Office regarding the new Procurement Policy Note (PPN). Effective from January 2027, the updated framework will double the minimum social value weighting to 20 per cent on government contracts valued at £5 million or more. Most notably, the policy refines social value outcomes to two core criteria: ‘good jobs’ and ‘skills’. This structural change means that apprenticeships, training, and work placements will effectively count for double in the bidding process. As an organisation deeply committed to workforce development, we fully endorse this strategic alignment of public spending with long-term skills generation.
