DELTA JUNCTION

The scope of works included deep soil mixing using 2m diameter, 11.5m deep columns totalling 15,700 m³, along with 55m deep, 1m diameter bored piles and sheet piled walls supported by grouted anchors. It also comprised a 30m span composite curved steel structure and a 200m long, 6m high reinforced concrete box structure incorporating 1,300 tonnes of rebar and 10,000m³ of concrete. Additional works included waterproofing, drainage and ductwork installations, post tensioning systems and dowelled movement joints.

CHALLENGES / SUCCESSES

  • Working within a mothballed railway corridor, MPB operated in an exceptionally restricted environment. Space for constructing the FRC elements was extremely limited, demanding meticulous sequencing and detailed planning to maintain productivity without compromising safety or quality.
  • Compounding the challenge, the works were carried out directly adjacent to the live, electrified Midland Metro Line 1, requiring rigorous safety management and continuous coordination to protect operational services. In addition, the live operational depot, sharing the same access route as the construction site, required careful consultation and collaborative traffic management to keep both construction and depot operations running smoothly.

Despite the constraints, MPB led the works with the Alliance providing oversight, managing all site activities and subcontractors to ensure full compliance and demonstrating our capability to lead and deliver complex infrastructure reliably.
