DERBY STATION

The works included drainage, reinforced concrete foundations, installation of precast riser walls, and full platform finishes. This project demonstrated MPB’s ability to combine early design involvement, rapid mobilisation, and high intensity delivery, all executed with the quality, safety, and reliability required on a live operational railway.

CHALLENGES / SUCCESSES

  • The platform modification works were delivered within an exceptionally demanding 28 day blockade, requiring the full demolition and reconstruction of major sections of platforms. MPB mobilised a 60 strong in-house team, operating continuously around the clock, in shift patterns, to meet the immovable hand back deadline, completing all works safely, efficiently, and on programme.
  • A further challenge was the installation of a 500m drainage run up to 5.5m deep, complete with an oil interceptor and outfall into the River Derwent. This required working ALO, constructing a sheet piled cofferdam, installing a PCC headwall, and managing complex environmental and operational constraints with precision.
  • Project highlights included contributing to the £200m Derby Area Remodelling Project through the construction of a 340m island platform, the installation of 700+ precast riser units, and successful delivery within a 600-hour blockade.

Together, all these achievements highlight MPB’s ability to deliver complex, time critical rail infrastructure with certainty, quality, and complete reliability.
