ECHO STREET

The 38,350 sqm project, located on the edge of the Whitworth Street conservation area, next to the gateway of Piccadilly and the North Campus of the University of Manchester, is characterised by a series of slim vertical blocks. These are stepped to respect and mediate between the smaller scale buildings around Vimto Park to the west of the site, and the more urban context to the east and south.

CHALLENGES / SUCCESSES

The Echo Street scheme presented a mix of complex technical demands and tight site constraints, giving MPB an opportunity to demonstrate both capability and collaborative delivery on a major student accommodation project.

Successful delivery of a major, high value scheme, completed on time and on budget, showcasing MPB’s capability in large scale, prestigious student accommodation projects.
Innovative safety and construction solutions, including bespoke edge protection screens, slip formed cores, and reusable metal column shutters and stair moulds, improving safety, efficiency, and waste reduction.
Logistical challenges from a constrained site with limited storage and restricted access, overcome through coordinated just-in-time deliveries and strong collaboration with supply chain partners.
Working adjacent to the national railway required careful planning and control measures, successfully managed while maintaining safe, continuous progress and enabling façade contractors to work efficiently.

Despite its constraints, the project was delivered safely, efficiently, and to the client’s satisfaction, reinforcing MPB’s reputation for dependable performance on complex high-rise schemes.
