Walsall Manor Hospital is a major acute healthcare facility serving the Black Country, and a key regional hub for emergency, maternity, and specialist clinical services. The development formed part of a wider investment programme to modernise and expand hospital infrastructure while maintaining full operational continuity for patients, staff, and emergency services.

The works involved the delivery of new clinical facilities within a live hospital estate, incorporating reinforced concrete substructure and superstructure works alongside complex interfaces with existing buildings, services, and operational routes. Given the healthcare setting, the project demanded exceptional standards of safety, coordination, and quality control throughout.

Delivering construction works within a fully operational hospital environment required careful planning, close stakeholder engagement, and disciplined execution.

Construction was carried out within a live acute healthcare setting, requiring strict segregation between construction activities, patients, staff, visitors, and emergency vehicle routes at all times.
The reinforced concrete structure was delivered within a constrained estate, with limited space for storage and laydown, necessitating just-in-time deliveries, controlled lifting plans, and carefully managed logistics.
Noise, dust, and vibration limits were tightly controlled through low-impact construction methods, real time monitoring, and close coordination with the hospital estates team to protect patient wellbeing.
Interfaces with existing buildings and live services required detailed surveys, early coordination, and flexible engineering solutions to manage legacy infrastructure and unforeseen constraints.
