Working collaboratively with Galliford Try and Network Rail, MPB undertook detailed construction planning, methodology development, and programme integration, ensuring that buildability, phasing, and operational impacts were fully understood and optimised. This early involvement enabled robust cost planning and risk management, ultimately allowing MPB to negotiate and agree a fixed price lump sum contract for delivery that was within budget and with a 10% betterment to the overall programme.
Following the ECI period, MPB successfully delivered the package of works, validating the benefits of early contractor engagement through smooth delivery, reduced risk, and strong alignment between design intent and construction execution.
This included the successful completion of all scheduled works within 28 days where we worked 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
The Derby Station Remodelling works clearly demonstrated the value of early contractor involvement, with MPB driving practical design development, de‑risking delivery, and securing cost and programme certainty. Completing the £5m package within the intensive 28‑day, 24/7 window reinforced MPB’s capability and validated the strengths of a collaborative, ECI‑led approach.
