MPB Recognised with Four Nominations at CONSTRUCT Day 2026

We are pleased to announce that MPB has been shortlisted for four awards at the forthcoming CONSTRUCT Day 2026. These nominations reflect our ongoing commitment to safety, operational excellence, and the exceptional individuals who contribute to the success of our organisation.

Health and Safety Excellence

MPB has been nominated for the Health and Safety Award in recognition of our work to eliminate confined space working during pile cap construction at the Curzon Street site.

Previous construction methods required staff to work within congested reinforcement cages, which presented significant safety risks. To resolve this, MPB redesigned both the methodology and the access systems. We introduced bespoke external access platforms for top mat installation, alongside crane-liftable “Up & Over” platforms that provided safe internal access without the need to climb through the reinforcement. Combined with externally fixed reinforcement systems, GRP working platforms, and integrated edge protection, we completely removed the need for cage entry.

Martin Cragg, Safety & Sustainability Director, commented on this achievement:

“By taking a design-led approach, we have reduced risk at the source and delivered a safer, more efficient, and repeatable construction method. This nomination validates our continuous drive to implement industry-leading health and safety practices across all MPB sites.”

Developing Our People: Young Achiever and Unsung Hero Awards

Our workforce is the foundation of our success, and we are delighted to see three of our team members nominated for their outstanding individual contributions.

Martyn Price MBE, Business and People Development Director, noted:

“The nominations of Zak, Kieran, and Lung highlight the depth of talent within our ranks. They each demonstrate the resilience, skill, and dedication that we strive to cultivate. Providing clear pathways for skills development and celebrating these milestones is fundamental to the future of our business.”

Young Achiever Award: Zak Walker

Zak Walker

Zak Walker, Site Engineer, has been nominated for the Young Achiever Award. Zak has built a strong reputation for his dedication to “right-first-time accuracy,” which has directly improved project timelines through reductions in wasted time and materials. He consistently identifies and rectifies interpretation errors ahead of construction, demonstrating a strong will to understand complex and sometimes contradictory project specifications. Zak has become a trusted advisor for site supervisors, bridging the gap between engineering theory and practical site execution.

Unsung Hero Award: Kieran Finnerty

Kieran Finnerty, a Project Manager who has been with MPB for 15 years, is nominated in the Unsung Hero category. Having progressed from an HSQE trainee, Kieran works tirelessly behind the scenes to manage all documentation and compliance, allowing our delivery teams to work without interruption. He coordinates site lifting operations and has supported multiple concrete pours exceeding 1,500 cubic metres on a challenging HS2 project. Beyond daily operations, Kieran has supported the team in securing over 200 NVQ qualifications and has achieved Chartered CIOB status.

Unsung Hero Award: Lung Ly

Lung Ly, Formwork Carpenter, is our second nominee for the Unsung Hero Award. Lung’s transition from a chef to a skilled formwork carpenter in his late 40s is a remarkable example of determination and resilience. After joining MPB through a short Skills Centre placement, he quickly proved his commitment and was offered a full-time role. He has since achieved his NVQ Level 2 in Formwork and continues to develop his skills within a highly technical project environment. Lung regularly gives back by sharing his journey to inspire new entrants into the construction sector.

We look forward to the CONSTRUCT Day 2026 ceremony and wish all our nominees the very best of success.
