MPB Structures is celebrating a landmark achievement on the HS2 project today, following the successful breakthrough of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) ‘Elizabeth’ in Washwood Heath, Birmingham.
As a key delivery partner to Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV) and HS2 Ltd, MPB was honoured to have delivered the extensive Fibre Reinforced Concrete (FRC) package for this critical Washwood Heath to Saltley section of the route.
The giant TBM completed its three-and-a-half-mile journey after 19 months of continuous tunnelling. The operation was a significant feat of modern engineering, navigating complex ground conditions and passing safely beneath critical national infrastructure, including the M6 motorway, the River Tame, and major energy networks.
