MPB is pleased to announce the successful completion of a significant engineering milestone on Phase 2 of the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro Extension (WBHE) project.
Working in close collaboration with our client, Midland Metro Alliance (MMA), and key supply chain partner, Briton Fabricators, MPB has successfully installed major structural steel elements across the Dudley Canal during planned overnight closures.
Precision Engineering Over the Dudley Canal
The operation involved the lifting and installation of paired 25m and 42m structural steel beams spanning the canal, using a 600-tonne crawler crane.
Once in position, the beam pairs were spliced together directly over the waterway, creating a key section of the overall structure. These components form part of a 220m multi-span viaduct that is central to Phase 2 of the WBHE project.
The successful delivery of this complex operation required detailed planning, precise execution, and close coordination between all project partners, demonstrating the technical expertise and collaborative approach of the teams involved.
“As part of the wider Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro Extension, this structure will play an important role in enhancing transport connectivity across the region. We are proud to contribute our engineering expertise to such a landmark infrastructure project and look forward to delivering the next phases of work safely and successfully.”
