MPB Structures Secures Major Contract for Midland Metro Alliance on WBHE Phase 2

MPB Structures Limited is proud to announce the commencement of our latest major infrastructure project, further strengthening our ongoing partnership with the Midland Metro Alliance (MMA).

Following our successful collaboration on the Delta Junction project on phase 1, we have officially broken ground on Phase 2 of the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension. This contract represents a significant milestone for MPB, as we continue to expand our footprint within the UK’s transport infrastructure sector.

Engineering Excellence on a Grand Scale

With a contract value of approximately £37 million, MPB is responsible for the delivery of the full civil engineering package. This complex scope of work showcases the breadth of our internal capabilities and the strength of our delivery partners.

The project involves over 600m of new infrastructure, including:

Movement of more than 30,000 m3 of stone and excavated materials
Installation of 1260t of sheet piles and 8700m of bored piles
Placement 7000m3 of structural concrete
Erection of 622t of structural steelwork

Notable engineering highlights of the project include the construction of a 225m multi-span viaduct and a 100m bored pile reinforced concrete slab being meticulously engineered onto an existing railway embankment.

MPB Welcomes New Procurement Policy Note Prioritising Skills in Public Contracts

MPB Structures welcomes the recent announcement from the Cabinet Office regarding the new Procurement Policy Note (PPN). Effective from January 2027, the updated framework will double the minimum social value weighting to 20 per cent on government contracts valued at £5 million or more. Most notably, the policy refines social value outcomes to two core criteria: ‘good jobs’ and ‘skills’. This structural change means that apprenticeships, training, and work placements will effectively count for double in the bidding process. As an organisation deeply committed to workforce development, we fully endorse this strategic alignment of public spending with long-term skills generation.
