NEW PROJECT: CHAPMANS YARD

MPB is delighted to announce that they have been awarded a contract to complete the groundworks and reinforced concrete frame to a new development in Birmingham on behalf of main contractor Buildfifty5 and developer Elevate Property Group.

The Chapmans Yard development consists of a residential development on an existing surface level car park at Upper Gough Street, central Birmingham.

The works comprise of the clearance and levelling of the existing site (involving the removal of hard surfacing and vegetation) and its redevelopment featuring the construction of an ‘I’-shaped apartment block. MPB are to complete enabling works, piling attendance, drainage and groundworks before the construction of the reinforced concrete sub- and superstructures, with a package value of circa £5m.

In total 111 one and two-bedroom apartments over five to seven storeys are to be built around two internal landscaped private courtyards.

MPB Welcomes New Procurement Policy Note Prioritising Skills in Public Contracts

MPB Structures welcomes the recent announcement from the Cabinet Office regarding the new Procurement Policy Note (PPN). Effective from January 2027, the updated framework will double the minimum social value weighting to 20 per cent on government contracts valued at £5 million or more. Most notably, the policy refines social value outcomes to two core criteria: ‘good jobs’ and ‘skills’. This structural change means that apprenticeships, training, and work placements will effectively count for double in the bidding process. As an organisation deeply committed to workforce development, we fully endorse this strategic alignment of public spending with long-term skills generation.
