Progress Update: Upper Brook Street, Manchester

We are pleased to highlight the ongoing progress at our Upper Brook Street development in Manchester, where MPB Structures is constructing the reinforced concrete framework for a significant new 23-storey student accommodation scheme.

In coordination with our supply chain partners, we are utilising advanced temporary works solutions to ensure the project is delivered to the highest standards of safety and efficiency.

Enhancing Safety at Height

Safety remains the foundational priority across all MPB Structures operations. We are delighted to showcase the successful deployment of the Altrad RMD Kwikform Ascent-S Safety Screens on this landmark project. Installed on the front elevation and returns of the building, these screens offer robust protection for our site delivery teams.

Key features of this installation include:

Comprehensive Protection: The safety screens stand at 12.7 metres high and securely span four storeys, providing an enclosed, weather-protected working environment at height.
Offsite Construction Efficiency: To optimise the project programme and minimise logistical challenges on-site, the screens were preassembled offsite. They were transported directly to the location and lifted immediately into position.
Professional Presentation: The black 20% perforated mesh, complete with prominent MPB branding, ensures a clean, smart, and highly professional appearance within the Manchester cityscape.

MPB Welcomes New Procurement Policy Note Prioritising Skills in Public Contracts

MPB Structures welcomes the recent announcement from the Cabinet Office regarding the new Procurement Policy Note (PPN). Effective from January 2027, the updated framework will double the minimum social value weighting to 20 per cent on government contracts valued at £5 million or more. Most notably, the policy refines social value outcomes to two core criteria: ‘good jobs’ and ‘skills’. This structural change means that apprenticeships, training, and work placements will effectively count for double in the bidding process.
