Based on our proven expertise and strong client relationships, MPB was appointed to design and install a complex temporary propping system for this technically demanding project.

Our team successfully supported a 14m-high single-skin brickwork façade while facilitating a 12m-deep excavation for the new basement structure. MPB’s delivery also included basement pile caps, below-slab drainage, and the permanent basement slab, all executed within a highly constrained environment.

CHALLENGES / SUCCESSES

The historic 14m-high brick façade was successfully preserved by installing 623 tonnes of temporary propping, which provided the essential structural stability required during the excavation phase.
The team managed a 12m-deep excavation on a constrained central London site, removing 55,000m³ of material while employing advanced geotechnical controls to safeguard the River Thames and surrounding structures.
New basement works were integrated with the historic building by using adaptive engineering to navigate legacy foundations and unknown ground conditions encountered beneath the retained façade.
Exceptional safety performance – achieving 344,855 safe hours worked on such a complex, high-risk engineering operation demonstrates strong safety culture, planning, and supervision.
