C350 Pudding Mill Lane STATION

MPB were engaged as part of a four-year programme for the construction of a new Docklands Light Railway (DLR) Station, for the piled foundations and viaduct approach and egress structures.

CHALLENGES / SUCCESSES

  • Operating adjacent to live DLR and Crossrail infrastructure introduced significant technical and operational challenges, with strict limits on vibration, access, and working windows to ensure uninterrupted rail services.
  • The demolition of the original station and construction of new piled foundations and viaduct approach structures had to be delivered within a tight urban footprint, where limited laydown space, complex logistics, and congested underground services increased programme and interface risks.
  • Ground conditions, settlement behaviour, and the precision required for viaduct alignment added further complexity, while coordination across multiple stakeholders, Morgan Sindall, Crossrail, DLR, TfL and utility providers, demanded disciplined planning and communication.

Despite these challenges, the project delivered strong outcomes that underline MPB’s capability in major rail infrastructure. The team successfully executed all piled foundation and viaduct works to specification, maintaining programme certainty across a four-year window.

Robust interface management ensured seamless integration with rail operations, while proactive risk management kept the works safe and disruption-free. Delivering low-tolerance structural works within a live environment demonstrated MPB’s technical strength and reliability on complex city centre transport schemes.
