CHALLENGES / SUCCESSES

  • High tolerance construction of the turbine blocks demanded precise installation of holding down bolts and embedment plates, where even minimal deviation could have affected turbine alignment and long-term performance.
  • The main turbine hall foundations involved numerous interfaces with mechanical and electrical systems, necessitating meticulous sequencing and coordination to avoid clashes and maintain programme integrity.
  • Extensive below ground drainage installation and the construction of blast-wall foundations added further complexity, with dense reinforcement, congested underground corridors, and strict structural performance requirements.
  • Operating within a live environment heightened the need for controlled access, vibration management, and robust safety protocols.

The project delivered strong technical outcomes, achieving turbine block tolerances and concrete standards on first inspection.
