Chamberlain Square

The building’s architecture included tapering at Level 08 with raking columns leaning at angles of up to 60 degrees. As all columns and soffits remained exposed, MPB maintained rigorous quality control to achieve a high-specification architectural finish for this landmark project.

CHALLENGES / SUCCESSES

MPB introduced a series of technical solutions that improved buildability, programme certainty, and safety performance.

  • Accelerated construction was achieved through slipform cores advancing at 2m per day and 18-day floor cycles supported by wireless concrete sensors and precast elements.
  • Sustainability remained a priority with the use of GGBS and post-tensioned slabs to reduce carbon, alongside the on-site reuse of 2000 tonnes of excavated material.
  • High-quality architectural finishes were delivered across 9,410m³ of concrete while maintaining rigorous safety standards to reach 250,000 RIDDOR-free person-hours.
  • Significant social value was generated through local employment and upskilling programmes, resulting in over £18.5m of recorded investment into the community.

Overall, the project showcases MPB’s capability to combine engineering excellence with meaningful sustainability gains and significant social value for the local community.
