Chapmans Yard

The works comprise of the clearance and levelling of the existing site (involving the removal of hard surfacing and vegetation) and its redevelopment featuring the construction of an ā€˜I’-shaped apartment block. MPB completed the enabling works, piling attendance, drainage and groundworks before the construction of the reinforced concrete substructure and superstructures and in total 111 one and two-bedroom apartments over five to seven storeys were built, around two internal landscaped private courtyards.

CHALLENGES / SUCCESSES

Constructing a multi-storey RC frame on a tight city centre site brought several technical and logistical challenges that required careful planning, strong coordination, and disciplined execution.

  • Limited access and constrained working areas increased the complexity of concrete deliveries, crane operations, material storage, and sequencing of trades.
  • The irregular footprint required precise setting out, careful formwork design, and close coordination to maintain accuracy across changing spans, levels, and structural interfaces.
  • Proximity to busy streets and neighbouring properties increased the need for strict safety controls, traffic management, and minimising noise, vibration, and disruption during core RC activities.
  • Delivering five to seven storeys of frame structure simultaneously across two internal courtyards required efficient pour cycles, disciplined planning, and reliable supply-chain performance.

Despite the technical and logistical constraints of a dense urban location and a complex building form, MPB Structures delivered a high quality reinforced concrete frame safely, efficiently, and to programme.
