COPPER BOX ARENA

MPB Structures was appointed to deliver the civil engineering substructure package, forming the critical foundations and below ground structural elements required to support the permanent arena superstructure. The works were carried out within a highly regulated Olympic Park environment, demanding rigorous safety standards, programme certainty, and close coordination with adjacent venues and infrastructure.

The substructure was required to accommodate heavy imposed loads, long spans, and complex interfaces with steel superstructure elements, while achieving tight tolerances essential for subsequent works.

Delivering the Copper Box Arena substructure presented several technical, logistical, and programme critical challenges, which MPB Structures successfully managed through disciplined planning and engineering led delivery.

CHALLENGES / SUCCESSES

  • Delivered substructures to stringent tolerances to support complex steel superstructure geometry and long span elements.
  • Worked within the highly controlled Olympic Park environment, adhering to enhanced safety, security, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Managed complex sequencing to align with wider Olympic programme milestones, ensuring the structure was ready for superstructure installation without delay.
  • Coordinated closely with adjacent trades and infrastructure works across the Olympic Park to avoid clashes and maintain smooth interface management.
  • Maintained excellent health, safety, and environmental performance throughout the works, contributing to the overall success of a nationally significant project.
