Edward Street Hospital

Plans included building an additional unit that provided modern, en-suite accommodation for patients, and developing a therapies hub to support treatment and recovery. The design ensured a sustainable build process throughout the development works for end user Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Delivering the groundworks and concrete structures for Edward Street Hospital required tight coordination, strong planning, and careful control on a constrained healthcare adjacent site.

CHALLENGES / SUCCESSES

  • Limited access and laydown space were managed through phased logistics, timed concrete deliveries, and strict vehicle coordination.
  • Mixed soils and legacy obstructions were resolved through early investigations, rapid redesigns, and efficient foundation sequencing.
  • Noise, dust and vibration limits were controlled using low impact methods, acoustic barriers, and real time monitoring to avoid disruption.
  • Heavy reinforcement and multiple structural zones were delivered accurately using digital pre planning, coordinated temporary works, and prefabricated rebar assemblies.
  • NHS level compliance was achieved through robust QA processes, frequent HSEQ inspections, and consistent safe system working.
