HOLLOWAY HEAD PHASE 1&2

Holloway Head included the relocation and development of the new headquarters for Girlguiding Birmingham. The construction programme focused on delivering two 14 storey reinforced concrete towers on the south site, alongside the full fit out of the Girlguiding facility. To meet the relocation deadline, the building was progressed to seventh floor level, making programme certainty and sequencing critical to the project’s success.

CHALLENGES / SUCCESSES

MPB Structures delivered this complex city centre scheme through careful planning, disciplined site management, and close coordination with multiple stakeholders across both phases of the project.

  • Worked on a tight urban site with no external storage, requiring all materials to be managed within the building footprint while maintaining safe, efficient logistics.
  • Overcame significant level changes across the site, implementing extensive temporary works, including bespoke propping to support footpaths and capping beams, during construction of the double storey basement.
  • Successfully handed over part of Phase 1 to the Girl Guides headquarters while continuing construction above, enabling demolition and progression of Phase 2 without delay.
  • Delivered four blocks ranging from 8 to 14 storeys with basement car parks, achieving high quality, zero serious incidents, strong client satisfaction, programme gains, and positive financial performance across both phases.

Despite major technical and logistical challenges, MPB completed the project safely, efficiently, and to an exceptional standard, earning strong client feedback and delivering successful outcomes on all fronts.
