M6 Junction 19

The scheme involved constructing a major new structure spanning the M6, formed of two 40-metre spans supported by 80-metre long abutments and a central pier built within live traffic management in the central reserve. MPB delivered all structural concrete works, placing over 6,500m³ of concrete, including a 750m³ continuous pour completed in just 12 hours during a planned motorway closure, a critical milestone achieved through meticulous planning and flawless execution.

MPB supplied all permanent and temporary materials for the FRC works and undertook all associated temporary works design, including CAT III checked formwork systems and AIPs, reflecting the stringent safety and engineering requirements of working adjacent to live motorway traffic.

CHALLENGES / SUCCESSES

  • Highly skewed geometry created major technical challenges at acute and obtuse corners; MPB resolved these through full 3D modelling of all formwork and temporary works, ensuring perfect fit, zero rework, and efficient delivery of the most demanding elements.
  • Working directly beside a live motorway required exceptional coordination and robust safety controls; MPB’s planning and disciplined site management enabled safe, efficient delivery with no disruption to road users.
  • Designed and installed a complex cantilever formwork system suspended from the edge beams and built over the live carriageway—a standout demonstration of MPB’s engineering capability and confidence in high‑risk, high‑precision operations.

Together, these achievements showcase MPB’s ability to solve complex engineering challenges and deliver high‑risk, precision led works safely, efficiently, and without disruption.
