MILES STREET

Works began with demolition, followed by an extensive temporary works and excavation phase to safely construct the new basement structures near a Network Rail viaduct. MPB completed 18,780 m³ of earthworks, installed large temporary propping systems, and delivered two slipform cores at 27.5 m and 118 m. The tower, supported by over 16,000 m³ of concrete, 2,246 tonnes of rebar, post tensioned slabs, and two tower cranes up to 120 m in height. MPB’s scope covered demolition, sheet piling, piling attendance, basements, substructure, slipform, drainage, superstructure, and site logistics.

CHALLENGES / SUCCESSES

By anticipating these risks early and applying disciplined engineering, MPB delivered a complex, multi-use development with confidence, reinforcing our reputation as the contractor clients trust when performance, precision and reliability are non-negotiable.

  • We uncovered 8m deep hidden obstructions during demolition that were not shown on any drawings, and we recycled the arisings for the piling mat, and kept excavation works moving to programme.
  • We delivered sheet piling, propping and deep excavation under strict temporary works, daily monitoring and close coordination with Network Rail.
  • The basement required deep excavation, heavy reinforcement (up to 23 layers), and tightly sequenced pours. MPB placed 2,100 m³ of concrete and 757 t of rebar in just 51 days, demonstrating high productivity and strong engineering control.
  • The tower slipform climbed to 118 m with precise planning and disciplined progress management. MPB delivered levels rapidly and safely, enabling the tower to top out on schedule.

Through proactive planning, safe execution, and strong collaboration with stakeholders, MPB Structures delivered the Miles Street project efficiently while overcoming technical, logistical, and external challenges.
