Moors Gorse Footbridge

Two modified LM type bridge spans were lifted into place onto precast concrete bank seats using a 500-tonne crane, followed by the installation of bespoke hardwood timber and steel parapets, resin bound surfacing, and the management of the existing Network Rail UWC throughout the programme.

CHALLENGES / SUCCESSES

The scheme was tendered prior to receiving formal planning consent, with MPB providing solutions to address planning challenges related to access, ecology, construction methodology, and public/highway interfaces.

  • Throughout construction, MPB worked closely with residents, Network Rail operational staff, and cyclists/pedestrians to ensure the works integrated smoothly with daily activity around the level crossing.
  • MPB applied extensive UWC experience to develop safe working strategies
that satisfied local operations teams and maintained safety during increased crossing use.
  • The site’s SSSI and AONB status required careful planning, environmental management, and proactive stakeholder engagement.
  • The scheme was nominated for a “Contribution to Communities” award.
