MPB Structures played a major role on this £750m megaproject, undertaking a wide range of works across the scheme. Initially brought in by Volker Fitzpatrick as an RC subcontractor for a minor package of works, MPB’s performance, delivery quality, and problem-solving capability were quickly recognised by both Network Rail and MACE. As a result, MPB was directly single sourced for multiple additional work packages, taking responsibility for delivering several critical elements of the project.
The project peaked at 150 operatives and staff on site, delivering extensive structural alterations including demolition, reconstruction, 500m³ of concrete works, and temporary propping to maintain building stability. MPB installed 650m² of new composite mezzanine floors, rebuilt a life expired concrete car park for office use with cathodic protection, and completed major external works such as 15,000m² of granite paving, anti‑terrorism measures, architectural planters, and new ductwork and drainage.
Further works included complex ground engineering, such as a tunnel spanning/supporting RC ground slab, new tunnel openings, and rock stabilisation for TOC accommodation, alongside full platform level refurbishment.
Through rigorous planning, collaborative delivery, and disciplined engineering control, MPB successfully completed the works without compromising safety, passenger experience, or station performance. The project reinforces MPB’s reputation for delivering high‑risk infrastructure upgrades in operational settings and showcases our ability to add value under intense logistical and technical constraints.
