The River Rea overflow structure is a major piece of infrastructure, designed to safely divert the existing watercourse that runs alongside the future HS2 track alignment. This impressive 450 m long reinforced concrete, water retaining structure not only redirects the river but also provides approximately 15,000 m³ of strategic water storage, significantly reducing flood risk to the new railway assets.
At both the inlet and outlet, the new structure interfaces seamlessly with historic Victorian infrastructure, demonstrating MPB’s ability to integrate modern engineering solutions with legacy systems while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
Together, these accomplishments demonstrate MPB’s ability to deliver intricate, safety‑critical civil engineering works with exceptional precision, technical excellence, and complete operational control.
