The project includes constructing a 27,000 m2 hospital building and refurbishing 4,500 m2 at Shrewsbury, making it central to the Trust’s modernisation efforts.
The new RC structure, located centrally within the hospital campus, will house various acute and emergency care departments across four floors, including Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), Birthing/Neo-Natal and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, High Dependency Unit (HDU), Coronary Care Unit (ccu), and Oncology & Haematologic. The refurbishment aims to redesign the Emergency Department to improve and expedite emergency care services.
Throughout the construction, existing services were maintained and careful consideration and planning was undertaken to reposition entrances and car parking. The construction of the building was carried out in phases to help minimise the impact to staff, patients, visitors, and local communities.
This project required MPB to deliver a major hospital development within a live clinical environment, balancing scale, and quality without disrupting critical operations.
