Therme Manchester

Therme Manchester is one of the UK’s most significant leisure and wellbeing developments, a £450 million, next generation water, wellness, and cultural resort being delivered in Trafford. Now under construction, the scheme is set to become the UK’s largest wellbeing destination, combining advanced architecture and engineering with nature, sustainability, and immersive visitor experiences. The project is expected to open in 2028 and will create approximately 2,500 construction jobs and 650 permanent roles once operational.

Developed by Therme Group, the 28 acre resort will feature state-of-the-art pools, thermal bathing zones, saunas, botanical gardens, digital art installations, and family focused leisure spaces.

Wherever possible, materials are being sourced locally, with innovative construction methods with a focus on reducing waste and emissions and MPB are also working alongside local businesses, charities and community groups to maximise the social value opportuniy.

CHALLENGES / SUCCESSES

Delivering the drainage, waterproofing and reinforced concrete structures for a complex, multi zone destination like Therme Manchester demands precise coordination, disciplined planning, and robust technical expertise. MPB Structures brings proven capability to manage these challenges while driving programme certainty and quality.

  • Curved structures, and varied pavilion footprints will be set out accurately through advanced survey control and close collaboration with design teams.
  • Strict crack control requirements, specialist joint systems, and controlled curing will ensure durable, watertight structures across all areas.
  • Early collaboration with the design team, MEP, pool specialists, and façade teams will ensure embedded items, penetrations, and service routes were coordinated without rework or delay.
  • High volume concrete operations will be supported by efficient pump locations, crane utilisation, and just-in-time delivery strategies to maintain consistent cycle times across the 28 acre site.
