WEDNESBURY TO BRIERLEY HILL METRO

On this section, MPB is acting as the lead contractor ahead of MMA’s mobilisation for track and overhead line installation. With full control of site activities, we have engaged our established and reliable supply chain to deliver over 600 m of new, high quality infrastructure. Our scope includes:

Movement of more than 30,000 m3 of stone and excavated materials.
Installation of 1260t of sheet piles and 8700m of bored piles.
Placement 7000m3 of structural concrete.
Erection of 622t of structural steelwork.
Installation of waterproofing, movement joints and bearings.

CHALLENGES / SUCCESSES

This package of works has a number of complex engineering challenges including:

Installation of a 45m span bridge structure over the Dudley Canal.
Construction of a 100m bored pile reinforced concrete slab on an existing railway embankment.
The construction of a bored pile track slab, tram stop and pedestrian footbridge on the main access road to Merry Hill shopping centre.

MPB aided MMA develop this scheme under a period of early contractor engagement, something we aim to do with all our projects to ensure that we can offer best value for our clients. This project demonstrates our ability to develop strong relationships with our clients and also to manage site works as a Principal Contractor.
