Wendover AfA Scheme

This project delivered a new “Access for All” footbridge at Wendover Station, designed and built by our project team to provide a modern, fully accessible connection for passengers. Accessible stations make it easier for people to visit friends, get to the shops or to work and it’s also good for the economy and means fewer car journeys, less congestion and reduced carbon emissions.

The structure featured piled reinforced concrete foundations and a robust steel superstructure finished with heritage brick and steel cladding to complement the station’s character. Works also included a full DNO upgrade to support the new lifts and lighting systems.

The completed scheme was extremely well received by Chiltern Railways, reflecting the quality, reliability, and attention to detail we bring to every project.

CHALLENGES / SUCCESSES

The scheme was undertaken in a live station environment with minimal platform closures or restrictions possible meaning significant possession working and the utilisation of a lightweight polystyrene bridge to enable plant and materials to access the island platform.
Works were carefully planned with the Station Manager and station staff to ensure that the works did not impact the operation of the station.
MPB managed all stakeholder liaison and 3rd party works including the DNO upgrade and enabling works than needed to be undertaken to ensure the works were completed in a timely manner.
MPB also managed and coordinated a constrained subcontractor programme including the M&E design and installation and the lift installation.

Together, these achievements highlighted MPB’s ability to lead, plan, coordinate and deliver complex station works seamlessly, even in highly constrained operational environments.
